During the Breakfast Briefing before Marine Equipment Trade Show yesterday the winner of the 2014 DAME Award was announced. The award was presented to Jefa Steering of Denmark for their new Jefa Steering Traveller system.
The Jefa Steering Traveller not only improves the rudder feedback at the helm but eliminates the need of bulky steering quandrants for twin rudder and twin wheel sailboats. Jefa has paid special attention to save weight and eliminate backlash which improves yacht handling. This system is specially made to attach cables and draglinks. Space saving was a big factor in the design as well, as cable systems on twin rudder boats require twin quadrants which take up a lot of space. It is often difficult to route cables because of the slanted rudders.
